Adults with type 2 diabetes are treated with the injectable prescription medication Mounjaro (generic name: tirzepatide). In order to improve blood sugar control, it is administered in conjunction with diet and exercise. Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) are combined to form tirzepatide (GIP/GLP-1RA). When glucose or nutrients are consumed, it triggers the intestines’ release of GIP and GLP-1 receptors, which in turn triggers the pancreatic β cells to secrete more insulin. Additionally, it is active in brain areas that control appetite. By delaying the stomach’s emptying after meals, tirzepatide prolongs feelings of fullness and reduces hunger.
